The Asp (lat. Aspius aspius) is a European freshwater fish. Asp is a predatory cyprinid, which spawns in streams and grows to be large, being a very hard fighter on the end of a line. It inhabits lakes and lower reaches of rivers and estuaries.
Asp eat small schooling fish found in surface waters, such as bleak and smelt, but also roach and perch. Normally asps are between 10 and 80 centimeters in length, with some reaching 120 centimeters, and weighing up to 12 kg.
In April–June, the asps migrates from lakes to streams for spawning. Spawning starts at temperature 6°C, asp attach eggs to rocks, gravel and water plants.
